A bear rehabilitator is an individual or organization that is licensed or otherwise authorized to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wild bears abiding by local, regional, and federal laws and regulations. Rehabilitators differ widely from small to large volunteer-driven private non-profit organizations to government operated projects aimed at population conservation. Bear rehabilitation is practised in many countries for one or several of four reasons; i/ compassion - to relieve pain and suffering, ii/ conservation - to mitigate human or environmentally caused problems, iii/ education - as a means to deliver a message of environmental custodianship, and iv/ scientific - acquire biological and/or biomedical knowledge.
